Julia Machado is a filmmaker and a postdoctoral artist-researcher at the Graduate Program in Visual Arts, National Fine Arts School of Rio de Janeiro, UFRJ. Her work deals with political topics related to subjectivities and territories as a starting point for intimate experiences, investing in the intersections between body and image-making processes. She was awarded OCIC Honorable Mention at the RIO International Ethnographic Film Festival (2006) for her debut short documentary, City of Youth (A Cidade dos Jovens, 2006). In 2016, she made a trilogy of portraits dealing with sexuality and the performative powers of eroticism in film and video for her PhD at Aarhus University, Faculty of Arts. Her works have participated in international festivals and exhibitions in South America and Europe.
